WRLA Calgary Members and Unique Journeys (CBE) - Careers

April 13, 2023

9:00 am - 10:30 am

The WRLA is collaborating with the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) Unique Pathways Program to bridge the gap between students looking for employment opportunities and employers looking for employees. The program’s premise is to partner high school students with employers in the building industries (including trades) and provide them with meaningful work to help develop their understanding of the amazing career opportunities in these industries.

The program is sponsored by the provincial government and CAREERS, which offsets a portion of the student’s salary. CAREERS reimburse a percentage, and the employer pays a percentage. The student works several hours a day, and for every 25 hours worked, the student receives one school credit which counts toward their graduation credit requirements.

Currently, The Cedar Shop and Metrie have partnered with the Unique Pathways Program. Both locations have 2 senior high school students working at their sites, and it has been a huge success.

Location: The Cedar Shop, 285 Manitou Rd SE, Calgary, AB T2G 4C2
