NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Friday, December 10, 2021

The Western Retail Lumber Association (WRLA) is excited to award a record-breaking number of 34 grants valued at $30,600. Each grant recipient will receive $900 towards their post-secondary education.

“With the record number of applications this year, large volumes of applicants that are current employees of WRLA members, and very generous support of WRLA events, we were able to increase the number of grants,” says Liz Kovach, WRLA president. “The funding impact has increased and we are thrilled to spread the funds to as many applicants as possible.”

The 2021 grant recipients are: Jill Daku, Joshua Harrick, Joshua Furdal, Ethan Noah Reiter, Andy (AJ) Jones, Liam Murray, Robbie Hames, Paris Brown, Emily Dawn Sondergaard, Siena Marsden, Sasha Noeth, Joshua Magri, Emma Dubeski, Brandon Daniel Doucet, Nathan Neufeld, Sydney Rondeau, Amy Deck, Leah Weinkauf, Bailey Shunter, Caleb Dale Guthrie, Anya Jackson, Claire Boisvert, James Rae, Emily Wheatley, Jolan Croswell, Jeannie Postnikoff, Jenna Kessler, Blake Olsen, Caidi Ulsifer, Sarah Faith Denoon, Chelsie Eyre, Pierce Deditch, Ishan Sharma and Brooke Pongar.

“Thank you once again to the participants and sponsors of our events, without member support we would not be in a position to offer these types of programs,” says Kovach. “As a not-for-profit, member-based organization, events provide a majority of our operating revenue. The volume of support directly correlates with the impact we can make from a programming perspective.”

The WRLA represents 1,200 member firms in the building supply industry across Western Canada, including hardware stores, manufacturers, suppliers and lumberyards. Funds for the education grants program are raised at WRLA’s annual golf events in Winnipeg, Calgary, Saskatoon and Kenosee.
